Inaugural concert for Gothenburg’s Anniversary Celebration with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Hans Ek. Guest artists include José González, Maia Hirasawa, Timo Räisänen, Stefan Andersson, Ebbot Lundberg, Yukimi Nagano from Little Dragon, Vic Vem and Katarina Hemlin as well as some surprise guests. The concert is hosted by Swedish actor and comedian Sissela Kyle.

Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra – Sweden’s National Orchestra

The Gothenburg Symphony was formed in 1905 and consists today of 109 musicians. The orchestra’s base is Göteborgs Konserthus, the gem at Götaplatsen that has gathered music lovers since 1935. Chief conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony is Santtu-Matias Rouvali and Principal guest conductor is the Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan.

José González

Singer, songwriter and guitarist José González was born in 1978 in Angered and has left an indelible mark on people around the world with his soft-spoken voice, soul-stirring music and songs like “Crosses”, “Line of Fire” and his rendition of The Knife’s “Heartbeats.” It has been 20 years since he was awarded a Swedish Grammy as “Newcomer of the Year” for his debut album “Veneer.” His latest album, “Local Valley,” was released in 2021. Now, he joins the opening concert with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in Frihamnen.

Yukimi Nagano from Little Dragon

Yukimi Nagano from Gothenburg is a songwriter and singer in the electronic band Little Dragon. Nagano has also appeared as a guest artist on several albums, including Gorillaz’s “Plastic Beach”, SBTRKT’s “Wildfire” and Flume’s “Take a Chance”.

Ebbot Lundberg

Ebbot Lundberg has been the frontman of both Union Carbide Productions and The Soundtrack of Our Lives, which achieved great success both in Sweden and internationally in the late 1990s and early 2000s. With a great voice, charisma and humor, Ebbot has a distinctively unique expression.

Stefan Andersson

Swedish Grammy award winner Stefan Andersson has developed a unique concept where Swedish history is interpreted through entertainment. “Made in China” is about the old Swedish ship East Indiaman Götheborg and its travels to China. From January to March 2023, an updated anniversary season, Made in China 2.0, will be played at venue Kajskjul 8.

Katarina Hemlin

24-year-old musician Katarina Hemlin has written the official anniversary song, which she will perform together with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra during the opening concert.

Stefan Sporsén and Augustifamiljen

Swedish pop and rock group Augustifamiljen was formed in 2006 as a side project to singer Håkan Hellström’s then live band. Today, Augustifamiljen is one of the Sweden’s best backing bands and has collaborated with several of Sweden’s best pop and rock artists.

Stefan Sporsén is a Swedish musician, composer and conductor. Sporsén plays trumpet and piano and also plays with Swedish singer Håkan Hellström.

Vic Vem

With his razor sharp lyrics, acclaimed Gothenburg hip-hop artist Vic Vem has shown that he is one of the Sweden’s foremost lyricists. He has also founded an organization that works for social change.
