Jubileumssatsningar / 400 GREEN YEARS
18 November 2022

The 400 Green Years anniversary initiative focuses on the city’s green spaces. As we prepare for the big celebrations in summer 2023, we will carry out a number of activities to explore green Gothenburg, including talks, exhibitions and events in various green settings.
Current 400 Green Years events will be advertised on the website.

Discover the City’s Green Spaces

The digital map below presents a selection of green spaces around the city. Some are magnificent parks, while others are areas that may be overlooked. Some have existed for generations, but others are brand new.

Regardless of their age and character, it is the parks, the green spaces and the people that bring Gothenburg to life. The city’s greenery affects how urban environments are used and experienced in the present, but is also crucial for future issues such as biodiversity, climate adaptation and health.

Historic Green Spaces

Gothenburg’s greenery is a valuable part of the city’s cultural heritage. As part of the 400 Green Years project, culturally and historically significant green spaces have been surveyed. The idea is that the findings will be used in urban planning processes and when developing parks and green areas.

A map showing a small selection of historical green sites can be found here.

Anniversary Trees

To celebrate the city’s green pillars, we have selected a number of trees that represent Gothenburg’s green growth. Both young and old anniversary trees can be found on this map. Eventually, there will also be signage in place.
