The vignette film
During the fall of 2022, Gothenburg's 400th anniversary and Göteborg Film Festival announced a contest allowing anyone, professionals and amateurs alike, to submit an entry and compete to create Göteborg Film Festival’s most viewed, most widely discussed film: the vignette film. The winner of the vignette film 2023 was Fabiana, which will be directed by Johanna St Michaels and Kristina Meiton.
The vignette film is the film that is shown before every film screening during the Göteborg Film Festival and is shown almost a thousand times. For several years, it has been a artistic commission given by the festival to an established filmmaker or artist. On the occasion of Gothenburg’s Anniversary Celebrations in 2023, the festival chose to create a competition where anyone could become the creator of the vignette film in 2023. To compete, a film idea on the theme of Gothenburg was required as the city will be in focus during the film festival 2023 due to the 400th anniversary. And there were plenty of ideas and six six nominees was selected by a jury. The audience and the winning jury have had their say and 2023’s vignette film will be Fabiana by Johanna St Michaels and Kristina Meiton.
