The ship belonged to the famous shipping company Svenska Amerika Linien which was founded by Dan Broström. They took passengers to New York, among other places, and were Gothenburg’s pride. A nice panoramic picture of Gothenburg from the end of the 19th century. The photograph is taken from the tower of the German Church and shows Gustav Adolf’s square, Brunnsparken and towards the central station. Far away in the background to the left, the fortress Skansen Lejonet can be seen.

Västra Hamngatan in Gothenburg in 1897. At this time, however, the street was called Vestra Hamngatan. The company Liverpool & London Globe Insurance Company’s building can be seen on the left in the picture.
