Architect and construction firm F O Peterson is in many ways completely unique. The company, which was founded in 1870, is very likely the oldest company of its kind in Northern Europe. In this book many of the well-known buildings they designed and built in Gothenburg are presented.

Since the start the company has designed, built, rebuilt, and expanded, on their own or as a contractor, but they are also active with maintenance and property management. Frans Oscar Peterson’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, with the surname Steen, have since they were founded both owned and managed the company.

Although F.O. Peterson has operated both nationally and internationally, Gothenburg has always been the dominant geography, the company’s home base, where they have also designed and built several of the city’s most well-known buildings.

On more than 300 pages in larger format buildings such as Oscar Fredrik’s church, Örgryte new church, Kviberg’s regiment, Telelgrafverket at Kaserntorget, Amerikahuset, Skeppsbrohuset and the Main Fire Station in Gårda are presented.

There are also main offices for shipping companies and industries such as Broström, Transatlantic, Stena, SKF and Volvo, as well as many properties around Eriksberg, Götaverken and Lindholmen. Several of the beautiful residential buildings in Vasastaden and the stately bank and insurance palace at Hamngatorna are also among their work, and just in time for the big anniversary, F. O. Peterson has, among other things, strengthened the foundation of the Stock Exchange Building.
