About the book

On the occasion of Gothenburg’s 400th anniversery, siblings Sanna and Johan Larén searched high and low for children’s books written in the dialect of Gothenburg – ”götebosska”. However, the only thing they found was a gôrstort (very big indeed) hole in children’s literature. ”That’s änna tetigt” (sort of odd), they thought. ”Than we’ll la (~surely) write one ourselves!”

“Götebosska for little knickedicker” (~ perculiar fellows) is a rhyming children’s book written in the Gothenburg tounge. Join our two knickedicks (well, try translating that word yourselves …) around the city where everyone is called Glenn. Grab a halv special (one hot dog with mashed potatoes) by Poseidon, and kick a halledônare (a really, really hard strike in football) next to Drömmarnas kaj. Ride a knôkfull (packed) tram and eat some gôrgo (delicious/very good indeed) fish with dill sauce in bamba (the school canteen).

Well chosen words and sentences from the local dialect are illustrated with colorful and detailed aquarelles.

About the authors

The author siblings Larén and illustrator Ellen Odlöw are all from Mölndal, a neighbouring town of Gothenburg, and they all share a love of language and dialects in general, and Götebosska in particular.

But more important, seeing that this is a book created to make people laugh together, it’s not a bad thing that the trio share the same gôrgoa (really great) sense of humor!

The book is Johan’s debut, while Sanna has written several children’s books. For example the picture book series about Billie Lou and Lille Bo, which has received literary support from the Swedish arts council and is performed by Stationsteatern in a theatrical adaption. The series is illustrated by Anna Norin.

Ellen has previously illustrated “Det är jag som är Ester”, written by Elin Lindholm.
