Fictional historical novel with a connection to reality.
Berghem publishing house is an independent publishing house that has published five fiction titles since its inception in 2010. All have local connections to Gothenburg. The latest, “Inget jag älskar mer” was published in April 2021 and is about Gothenburg’s history from 1889 to 1948 seen through Hilda Sparre’s eyes. Hilda Sparre was the last owner of Gunnebo Castle and the one who made sure that after her death the city of Mölndal came into its own instead of being sold on to a private buyer. Hilda Sparre’s significance for the city of Mölndal can not be exaggerated, but also her contribution to the cultural exchange in Gothenburg. Her father was Wilhelm Denninghoff, one of Gothenburg’s richest men. “Inget jag älskar mer” has several well-known characters, among the foremost is Sophie Elkan through whose eyes we get to get acquainted with the frictions that existed in Gothenburg between Swedes and Jews but also between poor and rich. The story takes its starting point in the marriage ceremony between Hilda, then Denninghoff, and Carl Sparre in the German Church in 1889 to take the path around the trade uprising, births and deaths, Carl Wijk, Stora teatern etc.
