Home / Suede gives an exclusive concert when Gothenburg celebrates 400 years!
20 April 2023

Suede broke through in the 1990s with era-defining classics such as “Beautiful Ones”, “Animal Nitrate” and “Trash”. The charismatic singer Brett Anderson became one of the decade’s most talked about and iconic frontmen. Several times Suede was one of the main attractions at the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden.

After lying low for large parts of the 00s, the London quintet reunited in 2010 and as late as autumn 2022 their ninth album “Autofiction” was released. During the spring of 2023, the group has done a celebrated tour in England and will come to Sweden on June 2 for an exclusive concert at Gothenburg’s Anniversary Festival, where they will round off the first day on the big tent stage in Frihamnen.

This also happens during Gothenburg’s Anniversary Festival, 2–5 June

June 2 will be a day of humour with Claes Eriksson and Per Fritzell from Galenskaparna and After Shave, Dockhumor with Björn Carlberg and Petter Lennstrand and standup with Ina Lundström, Peter Apelgren, Niklas Andersson, Petrina Solange, Henrik Schyffert and Ann Westin.

Artists such as Estraden, Bongo Riot GBG, Hooja, Sigrid, Sarah Klang, Jackie Mere and Jens Lekman & Burnstein Orchestra will perform. The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra has an opening concert with Timo Räisänen, Maia Hirasawa, Stefan Andersson, Ebbot Lundberg, Yukimi Nagano from Little Dragon, Vic Vem and Katarina Hemlin as guest artists.

There will be a Gala and Party performance with the Gothenburg opera with the royal couple in attendance, and Way Out West will take over the festival area on the evening of June 4 with artists such as First Aid Kit, Amason, Alex G and more.

The festival, which has free entry and is open to all ages, takes place on a 70,000 square meter large area in the centrally located Frihamnen. Three stages, an exciting range of food, activities and experiences on an area equivalent to eleven football pitches where the largest tent stage has room for an audience as large as Scandinavium.
