Carl Johans pastorat, Svenska kyrkan
We have since 2016 worked together with the city´s preventive health program in strengthening that which WHO since 1984 speaks of as spiritual/existential health.
The existential helath project “Open Cards” in down town Gothenburg started 2016 after the first national conference 2015 in Västerås. Apart from Hälsolots Centrum and Church of Sweden, Oscar Fredriks parish, Gothenburg University was also a partner in this through Ida Hallgren from the department of Practical Philosophy.
Everything started with a few groups the met in libraries to talk about existential questions. From this the idea was raised to create some cards that could help people to voice their ideas, feelings and wishes about the big questions that affects us all but are seldom talked about.
Without trying to direct anyone on what to think, feel and wish. With “Open Cards – a modell for existential talks” we have since then had many groups in libraries, existential walk and talks in the park, educating different professionals in the city to have such groups as well as inspirational- and network gatherings that lift these issues.
The feedback has been very positive. Many express that this has helped them in their life, which WHO 1984 also underlined when they took the decision to encourage all member countries to include the spiritual/existential dimension of health together with the physical, mental and social health dimensions.
We are happy and proud to be a part of this important work.
