More culture to the people! That was many people's wishes for the planning of Gothenburg's 400th anniversary.
Every year has a focus to put the spotlight on what is already happening to make Gothenburg an even better city together. During 2016, the focus was culture.
Summary of Focus 2016
- The anniversary preparations reach the half-time mark and residents are invited to a new consultation process asking “How do you want to celebrate 2021?”
- The Artscape street art festival develops into a unique initiative featuring 20 works of art in all ten city districts.
- The anniversary camp, Side by Side, is held for the third time.
- An initial decision is taken to proceed with plans for a cable car.
- The Young Influence democracy initiative holds a forum entitled “Created by and including Young People”.
- The first issue of the community magazine Ö-Posten, about the development of Ringön, is published.
- Centenary Park attracts 37,000
The anniversary is something that affects all around Gothenburg and all neighboorhoods are involved in lifting the culture extra in their part of the city. That was for instance made through Artscape that is a street art exhibition in every corner of Gothenburg.
