Gothenburg Classic Jaz
Monitors and collects information about jazz events in Gothenburg and surrounding areas.
Gothenburg has long been known as the capital of trad jazz in Sweden. Numerous orchestras and diverse styles abound, with weekly trad jazz events at various venues in Gothenburg, including restaurants, cosy clubs, churches and sometimes even outdoors during summer.
About Gothenburg Classic Jazz
In 1977, the legendary venue Jazzhuset was established in Gothenburg by a group of jazz musicians. To ensure fair performance opportunities at the venue, the Tradjazz Gothenburg Association was formed, now known as Gothenburg Classic Jazz. Although Jazzhuset closed in 2005, the association continues on, with both musicians and music lovers among its members. Gothenburg Classic Jazz monitors and collects information about jazz events in Gothenburg and surrounding areas, focusing on classic jazz styles such as New Orleans, Dixieland, swing, manouche, and others from the 1920s to 1950s.
Göteborg Classic Jazz Festival September 1-2 2023
With over 30 years of history, Göteborg Classic Jazz Festival is now the city’s sole annual jazz festival. Originally launched in 1989 as the Gothenburg Jazz Festival, it took to the streets much like its New Orleans counterpart. On 1-2 September 2023, the Göteborg Classic Jazz Festival take over Andra and Tredje Långgatan with two days of festivities and live music. Come and savor the jazz experience!

About the Association
Currently, Gothenburg Classic Jazz has around 500 members and is managed by a board that meets regularly. At its founding in 1977, both the audience and musicians averaged 30 years – many are still part of the community 45 years later! You are warmly welcome to join the association!
Gothenburg Classic Jazz will participate in the Jubilee Parade departing from Gustafs Adolfs torg on September 2, 2023.
