Eldfesten is full of activities and energy from start to finish. The main focus is on stage in the form of live music and dance from many different cultures. In the event area, there are also food sales that attract everyone’s taste buds. The celebration ends with an internationally renowned artist, which is a lovely end to the evening.

Eldfesten is the start of the celebration of the Persian New Year (Nouruz). It is the most important holiday of the whole year and is celebrated with family and friends. The holiday and celebration is not religious but merely an old tradition maintained throughout history.

The celebration begins on the last Tuesday before the Persian New Year and then continues until New Year’s Eve, which in 2023 falls on March 20, at 10:24 p.m. The celebration begins with Eldfesten (Chaharshanbe suri) and ends in 2023 on March 14.

During Eldfesten, you welcome spring and say goodbye to winter, this is done by jumping over the bonfires that are lit during the party. Jumping over the fire is a symbolic purification process where the flames are said to be able to cleanse body and soul from disease and evil. With the rhyme “Zardie man az to, sorkhie to az man” which directly translates to “My yellow to you, your red to me”. You get rid of the winter cold and instead get the warmth and vitality of the fire for the coming year.
