Gothenburg Local History Association
A map book with about 120 maps in color that shows Gothenburg's development over 400 years through maps. Narrative texts to the maps.
Through cooperation with organizations such as the Historical museum, the National archive, Region Västra Götaland, Higab, University of Gothenburg, genealogist in Gothenburg and about sixty different cultural heritage associations, GHF keep on acting for the same cause since the 1950’s: To increase the common knowledge and to strengthen the community around the local history in Gothenburg.
They want to bring awareness and engagement in preserving the city from a historical, topographic or from an artistic perspective. The interest for the cultural heritage is the force in the engagement for the local history. Here all generations unite.
Activities
The local historical day – with local book fair
On Saturday May 20 11.00-16.00, The local historical association gathers in the oldest house in Gothenburg called “Kronhuset” to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city. Here you will find writers, publishers, geneologists, and other relevant organizations who will present themselves, sell books, maps and much more. There will be interesting lectures on the second floor, a children’s play corner and outside activities on the yard all day. The prize for “the best Gothenburg book of the year” (2022) will be announced.
