About Make Music Matter! #Forabetterday

Make Music Matter! #ForABetterDay is one of Gothenburg’s jubilee actors when the city turns 400 years old! They will implement a project around collaborative music making under the theme Collab2Compose, which is aimed at young Gothenburg citizens in which both schools, associations and cultural organizations can participate. The project has a strong focus on music, creativity and well-being, where the aim is to through collaborations in various forms promote integration, tolerance and cultural diversity so that young people can face a brighter tomorrow.

Make Music Matter! was established in 2017 and is a network and a digital platform where academia, school, music and the music tech industry collaborate with the surrounding community to spread knowledge, innovation and new thinking around music.

The purpose of Make Music Matter! is to give young people opportunities to acquire music as a form of expression and means of communication in innovative environments that are similar to the music industry and society’s cultural life at large, and to promote entrepreneurship. Make Music Matter! offers both skill development for teachers and innovative and authentic activities in music that their students can work with both at school and in their free time.

Make Music Matter! run by the Linnaeus University in collaboration with Signature – Fundraising Foundation for Music Promotion, Tim Bergling Foundation, Sweden’s Municipalities and Regions, Soundtrap by Spotify, Wahzaa, NE, We Are Voice, Academy of Music and Business and ABBA The Museum.

School projects

A large part of the business consists of school projects, often in collaboration with the music industry. Among these can be mentioned STORIES #ForABetterDay, an ongoing project about music, creativity and the well-being of young people, which takes place in collaboration with the Tim Bergling Foundation. Over 400 schools from all over the country participate in the project. Another project is “I HAVE A DREAM”, about children’s rights according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This project has previously been carried out in collaboration with ABBA The Museum and Unicef, where Björn Ulvaues has also been involved. A third project is HAPPY NATION RE-BORN, with connections to the Gothenburg group Ace of Base.
